| In 1956,
Jake Will established a small aggregate company, Coast Rock, in
Santa Maria, California. This small-town company began its business
mining and producing aggregates around the local area.
Only a year later in 1957, an additional entrepreneur,
Mike Hermreck, established his construction company, M.J. Hermreck
Construction. Unlike Coast Rock, however, the focus for M.J. Hermreck
Construction was not the production of aggregates. Instead the
focus was general contracting consisting primarily of the construction
of bridges, concrete work and road building.
Two years later in 1959, Mike Hermreck and Jake
Will began the first of many successful business enterprises,
Union Ready Mix. Union Ready Mix was formed with the combined
efforts of Mike's financial backing and Jake's business background.
This enterprise started what would become one of the finest partnerships
in the area.
Today the Hermreck and Will families carry on this
partnership as Union Asphalt, Inc.
